Hi, I’m Shuchen Hu,
You look fine on paper. Inside, you’re exhausted from holding it all together by yourself. Whether you are navigating anxiety, perfectionism, intrusive thoughts, executive functioning challenges, or major life changes, I am here to create a space for you to slow down and make sense of your experiences.
With a background in clinical psychology and neuropsychology, I am interested in how our minds shape the stories we tell about ourselves and the patterns that influence how we move through the world. I help clients better understand these patterns, work through challenges, and develop a greater sense of clarity and self-understanding.
I’m practicing under the supervision of Cathy Sullivan-Windt, Ph.D.
Why I’m a Therapist
I have always been interested in helping people feel understood. Looking back, I realize that this interest was shaped by my own experiences early in life, when I learned how profoundly culture, language, and communication influence the way we connect with others. Those experiences inspired me to pursue a career in psychology.
I value each person’s unique story and enjoy helping clients explore the connections between where they have been, where they are now, and where they hope to go.
More than anything, I’m incredibly inspired by the ways people find their footing through difficult moments and move toward the life they want to build.

What I Love About Being a Therapist
I love witnessing the quiet resilience people carry, even when they cannot yet see it themselves. I have always been drawn to the idea that growth is less about becoming someone new and more about learning to move with life’s changing currents without losing sight of who we are.
It is a privilege to walk alongside clients as they navigate uncertainty, process their stories, and discover new ways of moving forward with intention and authenticity.
My Therapeutic Style
You won’t sit in silence while I nod. We’ll name the patterns keeping you stuck and build actual tools you can use between sessions.
I take a collaborative and active approach, drawing primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) while integrating elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Together, we’ll develop practical tools to help you navigate life with greater flexibility and confidence.
I believe therapy is most meaningful when people feel they can bring their whole selves into the room.
I welcome the different ways people communicate, process experiences, and understand their lives. As a bilingual therapist, I provide therapy in both English and Mandarin, allowing clients to express themselves in the language or combination of languages that feels most natural to them.
My hope is to create a space where clients feel comfortable being genuine, exploring what matters to them, and unpacking their thoughts and feelings.

My Education and Experience
I am a rising 3rd-year PsyD student in Clinical Psychology at Loyola University Maryland. During my training at Loyola, I worked with adults across the lifespan on concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, trichotillomania, emotional regulation, and relationship challenges.
Before my doctoral training, I obtained my Master’s degree from Columbia University and worked in an intensive outpatient clinic as a counselor serving adults with severe mental illness and disabilities. This work taught me the importance of extending clinical focus beyond the individual to include family systems and interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly when working with individuals with complex psychiatric and medical needs.
I am a registered psychology associate in Maryland and practice under the supervision of licensed psychologist Cathy Sullivan-Windt, Ph.D.
