Hi, I’m Nick Windt,

Are you having difficulty with the relationships in your life? Are you struggling to make progress with your goals? Is it hard for you to find meaning in your daily living?

I work hard to create an engaging and supportive environment where you can let down your guard and speak freely, so we can get to work on creating the change you are looking for.

I firmly believe that before any psychological theory or technique can be helpful, a therapeutic relationship must be established. I see the relationship between a client and therapist as a collaborative partnership.

Why I’m a Therapist

To me, being a therapist means having the chance to be a part of someone’s story, to be a part of their growth, to help when I can, and stand alongside them through their struggle.

What I Love About Being a Therapist

Being a therapist, to me, is also about connection; I do not claim this is a completely altruistic venture on my part. I thrive when I am able to meet people, sit with them through their wins and their losses, and have a chance to form a real connection.

I love hearing people’s stories, learning about the things they love to do, the foods they love to eat, and the moments that make them who they are.

Hi! I’m Shuchen Hu, the Care Coordinator for New Connections. I’m here to connect you with the best therapist for you. The easiest way to get started is to schedule a free 15-minute consultation with me. Look forward to assisting you!

Before scheduling, we encourage you to review our self-pay rates and insurance coverage.

My Therapeutic Style

My style is based on the simple concept that the relationship is everything. My experience, the therapy theories I have learned about, the books I have read, mean nothing if you do not feel safe and comfortable. I have always seen my primary responsibility as learning who you are, which hopefully allows me to let you lead the way.

I help clients develop a deeper awareness of their strengths and what is holding them back from achieving their goals.

If I’m doing my job well, neither you, nor I, will notice the shifts between psychodynamic approaches and cognitive behavioral ones, between talking about the implications of your past and how your current, ingrained patterns of thought are working against your personal goals.

Fun Facts about Nick

I grew up in Baltimore and am a huge fan of the Orioles and the Ravens.

Music is a passion of mine, I’ve been to at least 150 concerts in my life.

I love learning about history and I’m currently on a Medieval Europe kick.

My Education and Experience

I completed my BA from St. Mary’s College of Maryland in 1999, majoring in political science and minoring in sociology. I then worked for three years in the communities of Baltimore City in the capacity of case management and education access.

In 2005, I completed my MSW from the University of Maryland School of Social Work. While there, I was lucky enough to have internships at Baltimore City Public Schools, Spring Grove State Hospital, where I got my first experience working with severe mental illness, and Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital Community Psychiatry Program.

Since graduating and obtaining my licensure, I have worked at both Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital as well as Johns Hopkins Hospital, mostly in the capacity of an outpatient therapist, but also working in the emergency department. In addition to working with people who suffer with serious mental illness, I also have extensive experience working with people struggling with severe addictions.

My postgraduate education experience includes being certified as a supervisor for both master’s level social workers and counselors, completing a certification in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy from the Beck Institute, as well as engaging in several other forms of ongoing education and supervision.

I strongly believe that my development as a therapist never ends, and helping other, newer therapists, through supervision, helps me to be a better therapist as well; providing supervision is one of my favorite parts of the work!
