The holiday season is almost upon us. All around us, we begin to see the lights and decorations spreading through our streets. We replay those same old Christmas hits that get us in the festive mood. It can be easily said that this is the most romantic time of the year. And you’re just in time to check out some holiday date ideas in Baltimore.

Something about the cold winter air makes us want to get cozy with our love. After all: “Baby, it’s cold outside”, and Christmas really is the perfect season to start planning some holiday-inspired dates filled with romance.

There are many fun and festive activities to do as a couple around the holidays, especially if you’re near Baltimore, Maryland. Our Charm City turns into a winter wonderland of lights and cheerful events for you to get your romance on.

But even if you’re not partnered up for the season, this can also be a magical setting for a first date or a few first dates. So, if you are looking for holiday date ideas in Baltimore, here is our nice (and not naughty) list:

7 Romantic and Fun Holiday Date Ideas to Enjoy in Baltimore

1. Ice skating in the Inner Harbor

We know that ice skating isn’t exactly the most original winter date. However, it can be a good ice-breaker (hopefully not in a literal way) for a first date or just a fun plan where you can see your partner take a few harmless falls.

So, grab your ice skates (or rent a pair for $4) and start practicing your best skating routine together.

The Inner Harbor Ice Rink is located at the top of the Amphitheater in between the Harborplace Pavilions, overlooking the water. It’s open day and night with special hours around the holidays.

2. A stroll through Miracle on 34th Street

All the residents of 34th Street in The Hampden neighborhood come together each year to put up an amazing light display. This beautiful tradition was started by a local couple over 70 years ago.

Invite your loved one to take a walk down Christmas lane and enjoy the best Christmas light decorations in Baltimore. During your visit, try to spot the crowd favorites, such as the hubcap tree or the bicycle wheel snowman.

3. More lights at the Maryland Zoo

The Maryland Zoo lights up for a brilliant seasonal spectacle of Zoo Lights presented by Chase. You will experience twinkling lights and holiday flair in the shapes of zoo animals, with over 80 lights displays with 150,000 environmentally-friendly LED lights, transforming the Zoo into a sparkling winter wonderland.

This year, with the new BRRR Fest ticket, you and your date can enjoy the sights and sounds of Zoo Lights while warming your taste buds with unlimited beer and wine tastings.

4. An authentic German Christmas Market

Christmas Village in Baltimore is a huge heated festival tent and outdoor wooden booths, where you can find great holiday gifts, ornaments, jewelry, as well as high-quality arts and crafts.

The unique atmosphere with thousands of lights, the big Gluhwine Pyramid, the delicious smell of waffles, pretzels, gingerbread, bratwurst, and mulled wine gets you and your date into the perfect Christmas spirit.

Don’t forget to check out the daily performances of local choirs, bands, and performers to sweeten your visit.

5. A trip on a Baltimore Holiday Cruise

Get into the holiday spirit with a romantic meal on the water, while enjoying the great views of the Inner Harbor. Come together with your loved one and depart to a unique celebration while sailing through the Patapsco River.

The whole experience gets extra sparking with romance as you discover the lights and decorations of the Inner Harbor waterfront.

6. A holiday movie night at Guinness Open Gate Brewery

If you’re a Classic Christmas Movies enthusiast check out the December Movie Nights, and rewatch some of the favorites such as Home Alone and The Muppet Christmas Carol.

Movies will be shown inside a heated tent, with popcorn, candy, and brews all around. The admission is free, so you’ll have to go early to save a spot.

7. A christmas musical or play

After months of waiting, we can once again enjoy a live indoor performance. So, put on your best theatre-going clothes and enjoy your date while supporting the local culture. Check out our suggestions:

A Christmas Story, The Musical

A Christmas Story, The Musical, brings the classic 1983 movie to hilarious life on stage at Baltimore’s Hippodrome Theatre. From the songwriting team behind the smash-hit Tony Award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen and the critically-acclaimed films La La Land and The Greatest Showman.

This performance features a festive and nostalgic holiday-themed score complete with dazzling visuals, costumes, and choreography.

A Christmas Carol – Chesapeake Shakespeare Company

A Christmas Carol Adapted from Charles Dickens by Ian Gallanar, Directed by Lizzi Albert & Erin Bone Steele at Chesapeake Shakespeare Company.

This is a holiday classic with a Baltimore twist, where Ebenezer Scrooge lives in Victorian Baltimore in a spirited adaptation of the classic ghost story. A great play that celebrates local history and Chesapeake culture while staying true to Charles Dickens’ novella.
